The reason for going

What a day!

We've all survived our first day on site. The two houses the British teams are building are both above head height already. We've moved a few hundred bricks - all weighing about 14kg. Basically you form a line standing an arms width apart and swing the bricks from one person to the next! We've mixed 6 lots of dugger (sand & cement mix) and bagged (fill in gaps and smooth out mortar) all the walls.
The fat cakes were yummy (massive doughnut type things) with apricot jam and well received at morning tea break.
Our house is for a 47 year lady, Mama Tembeke, and her two youngest children aged 15& 12. Her eldest , Tando, has a family of his own but he has been helping us on the build today and will be back tomorrow.
Back for more in the morning - just hoping we can get out of bed!!
Hopefully another update tomorrow (Internet allowing) and if I can work out how to do it you might even see some photos!!
Bye for now.
